Rep. Matthew Shepherd of El Dorado is serving his first term in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He represents District 6, which includes part of Union County. For the 88th General Assembly, Rep. Shepherd serves on the House Judiciary Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He also serves on the Joint Energy Committee; the House Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development; and the Arkansas Lottery Commission Legislative Oversight Committee.
A native of El Dorado, Rep. Shepherd graduated from El Dorado High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Ouachita Baptist University and a law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law. A practicing attorney, he is a member of the El Dorado Rotary Club, the Arkansas Bar Association, the Union Cuonty Bar Association, and the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce.
Rep. Shepherd and his wife, Alie, have three young children, and the family is Southern Baptist. In his free time, Rep. Shepherd enjoys coaching children's sports teams, watching sports, and playing golf.
