The 2025 Regular Session of the Arkansas General Assembly officially began this morning. On this inaugural day, members of the House were sworn into office. The House then formally elected Rep. Brian S. Evans of Cabot as Speaker of the House for the 95th General Assembly.
The Arkansas Speaker of the House presides over the body and is elected by the membership every two years. The Speaker assigns committee leadership and names members to select committees. Other duties include recognizing members to speak on the House floor, preserving order in the House, and assigning bills to the proper committee.
Speaker Evans subsequently announced his selections for committee chairmanships and leadership positions, which can be found on the House website at arkansashouse.org.
The House will reconvene tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by a joint session with the Senate at 10:30 a.m. in the House Chamber to hear Governor Sanders deliver the State of the State Address. As always, this address and all House proceedings will be live-streamed.
