
On Tuesday, the House Public Health, Welfare, and Labor Committee advanced HB1181, which grants certified nurse midwives the authority to admit and discharge patients from licensed hospitals if granted privileges and allows them to complete and sign birth and death certificates.
In the House Public Transportation Committee, SB45 was advanced to authorize a special license plate in support of women veterans.
Meanwhile, the House Judiciary Committee advanced HB1317, increasing the penalty for falsifying records to defraud a state-supported retirement system from a misdemeanor to a Class D felony.
The House Education Committee also advanced HB1180, mandating that public schools and open-enrollment charter schools incorporate a human growth and development discussion into an existing health and safety course beginning in the fifth grade, featuring a high-definition ultrasound video and the "Meet Baby Olivia" video illustrating human development inside the uterus.
In addition to committee actions, the full House passed HB1067, which provides civil immunity to federal firearms licensees who agree to hold a firearm for an individual.
House members also approved HB1007, which exempts hosts of shooting sports events sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and 4-H from liability for participant injuries or deaths, with specific outlined exceptions.
