Arkansans are no strangers to winter weather, but the recent storm served as a strong reminder of how quickly hazardous conditions can disrupt daily life across our state. Ice-covered roads, lingering snow, and sustained freezing temperatures impacted families, businesses, schools, and essential services. State and local officials worked around the clock to keep communities safe, while many Arkansans adjusted schedules, checked on neighbors, and exercised patience as conditions improved. As recovery continues, we remain mindful of the challenges many are still facing and grateful for the first responders, road crews, healthcare workers, and utility employees who stepped up during difficult conditions.
Even as winter weather dominated recent days, the work of the General Assembly continues. Attention is turning toward the upcoming fiscal session, when lawmakers will focus on budget matters that affect every corner of the state, from education and healthcare to public safety and infrastructure.
Budget hearings for the fiscal session are scheduled for Wednesday, March 4 through Friday, March 6, 2026. These hearings provide legislators the opportunity to closely examine agency requests, ask questions, and ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent responsibly and effectively.
Following the hearings, pre-filing of legislation will begin on Monday, March 9, 2026. During a fiscal session, only appropriation-related bills may be pre-filed.
The General Assembly will formally convene for the 2026 Fiscal Session on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 12:00 noon. At that time, legislators will take up budget legislation shaped by months of preparation, hearings, and careful review.
The budget hearings and the Fiscal Session will be live-streamed at arkansashouse.org.
Through winter storms and legislative sessions alike, the Arkansas House remains committed to serving the people of this state, balancing immediate challenges with long-term fiscal responsibility and ensuring Arkansas continues to move forward.
