Little Rock, Arkansas (August 15, 2017) – As students are preparing to return to the classroom, Arkansas legislators are doing the same. Members are making plans to visit schools in their district for the 3rd annual Take Your Legislator to School Month.

In the 2015 Regular Session, the Arkansas General Assembly passed HCR1008 designating September as annual “Take Your Legislator to SchoolMonth”. This bipartisan initiative was motivated by a need for members of theGeneral Assembly to fully understand the issues and challenges facing public schools in their districts, as well as the innovative solutions our educators are developing.

HCR1008 encourages public school districts to plan special events with their local legislators. Examples could include allowing legislators to visit classrooms, read to students, or present guest lectures; school-sponsored panel discussions in which administrators, teachers, and students discuss issues facing their schools; or any activity that engages and involves legislators in the work of their public schools.
